The new Ferrari World ride from German thrill ride manufacturers HUSS is set in a theatre with access doors from introductory rooms, a control room and out to exits and fire escapes.
Automation 4 Ltd’s Door Access Safety System locks and monitors the ride’s doors protecting both visitors and operators. Automation 4 Ltd designed and built the control systems in the UK and then installed and commissioned the systems ready for HUSS to integrate into the overall ride control system in Abu Dhabi.
Detailed risk assessments were carried out by an independent safety consultancy. Automation 4 Ltd then designed their systems to meet or exceed the required safety levels: electronic locks are fitted to safety critical doors; fail safe and dual circuit systems have been included; and, in order to eliminate potential errors, the control system and operators can only open the doors when it is safe.
Tim Groves, Director of Automation 4 Ltd, says, “The system uses industrial programmable safety relays and door solenoids from Sick Ltd, which provide a robust and reliable solution for operation 6 days per week 12 hours per day. In addition, we integrated the safety system with the show control system to provide one simple control panel interface for the operator.”
The project has been such a success that Ferrari World Abu Dhabi have asked Automation 4 Ltd to review systems for existing rides.
