Plans have been submitted for a new theme park project dubbed Flamingo Land Coast that would be located on the Scarborough seaside.
Flamingo Land Coast would include a 60m-high Cliffhanger ride, a rollercoaster, and a four-storey building containing restaurants and play areas.
The complex would be located on the site of Scarborough’s Futurist theatre, which closed in 2014.
Scarborough Borough Council was “delighted” at the plans – and has now requested an Environmental Impact Assessment. A public consultation will also be held on the plans which will be used to “help shape the full planning application.”
Talks are currently taking place with ride manufacturers and specialist engineers for the “cutting-edge and unique attraction.”
Gordon Gibb, Flamingo Land’s chief executive, said: “Flamingo Land is very much committed to creating a new, exciting family attraction in Scarborough and we are looking forward to sharing these plans with the public.”
Conservative councillor Derek Bastiman, Leader of Scarborough Borough Council, said: “We are delighted that Flamingo Land has submitted its screening report and revealed its initial, exciting plans for Flamingo Land Coast.
With over 1.5 millon annual guests, Flamingo Land is officially the UK’s busiest independent theme park. As well as the Scarborough site, the family-run business hopes to develop an additional new site on the banks of Loch Lomond in Scotland.
The Loch Lomond project will include woodland lodges, glamping pods and variety of family attractions and restaurants.
