The first snow park in Oman, currently under development as part of the Palm Mall – now renamed the Mall of Muscat – is to open by the end of the year.

Construction began in 2015 and the park was originally due to open in 2017. Authorities have announced that visitors will now gain access to the 5,600 square metres of winter-themed attractions in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The Alpine-themed Snow Park is being constructed by Unlimited Snow, the one-stop general contractor for the project, under the direction of Al Jarwani Group.

The park is on the third level of the mall. It will be made up of a warm zone and a cold zone. The warm zone will encompass the reception area, dressing-rooms, an Ice Bar and an Alpine Café. The two-level cold zone will include more than 21 rides and activities to suit all ages. These will include climbing walls, snow mobiles, a snowball arena, an ice carrousel, slides and inflatable bumper cars.

Snow Park will feature an artificial snow fall as well as light effects including a realistic star-filled sky. Chemical free snow and ice will be produced outside of visiting hours. The park will use a fully-automated melt-water recycling system.

The park is also aiming to operate without queues, using a smartphone app created by TheExperienceTicket to allow visitors to pre-book their entry and slots at rides, shows and restaurants. The apps algorithm then generates a personalised itinerary for the group, taking them on the pre-planned route through the park.

Peter Rødbro, founder of TheExperienceTicket, said: “Guests can decide everything, except in what order to ride. That’s because our system calculates the optimal route between rides, ensuring they run at full capacity during all operating hours.”

The Mall of Muscat will also feature a 2-million litre aquarium. This will showcase  local marine life. In addition it will have a 12-screen multiplex cinema, shops, a hotel and 70 serviced apartments.
