Spain’s Paramount Theme Park ruled illegal by regional high court

Ambitious plans to construct a Paramount Theme Park in Alhama, Spain have finally bitten the dust.

The park has been judged illegal by the High Court of Murcia because it encroaches on the protected regional park of Sierra de Carrascoy and El Valle.

Ever since former regional president, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, laid the foundation stone in May 2012, the park has been a source of controversy.

This official ruling upholds an objection raised by environmental activists, Ecologistas en Acción, who claimed that 21% of the park would be affected by the development.

The proposed site will now revert to agricultural use.
