Qatar is planning to invest up to $45bn in new developments to boost tourism as part of its 2030 strategy.
According to The National, Qatar is looking to the sector to generate 5.2 per cent of its GDP.
To achieve this, it has set its sights on doubling visitor numbers to around 10 million visitors annually. This is expected to generate in the region of US$17.8bn.
The news comes ahead of this year’s Arabian Travel Market (ATM) which is focusing on experiential travel as a key driver to tourist growth in the region.
Qatar’s milestone of 4 million visitors by 2020 is already on track, according to Simon Press, the ATM Senior Exhibition Director.
