Unique surfboard-shaped trains will feature free-spinning seats

Six Flags Over Georgia is opening an Intamin Ultra Surf roller coaster next summer, which will offer a coaster experience with water elements.

Located in the park’s Screampunk district, the unnamed coaster will send riders back and forth along nearly 590 feet of U-shaped track at top speeds of 60 mph with a peak of 144 feet.

The unique surfboard-shaped trains will feature free-spinning seats in two outward-facing circles, with guests enjoying three airtime moments and four different airtime spins.

“This ride provides unmatched weightless airtime to create an experience you don’t want to miss,” the Six Flags park says on its website.

Passengers will experience four water effects, from a vertical wave wall and low cutting splash combination to a trip through a water vortex tunnel creating a water curtain.

“While this coaster features refreshing splash moments, during the cooler months it can be disabled, allowing for year-long thrills,” the park added.

Six Flags Over Georgia’s upcoming Ultra Surf coaster is manufactured by Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides.

Home to more than 40 rides and attractions, including 12 roller coasters and the seven-acre Hurricane Harbor water park, Six Flags Over Georgia opened in 1967. The park’s renovated triple looping coaster, the Riddler Mindbender, debuted in 2021.

Surf coasters at US theme parks

Earlier this year, SeaWorld Orlando opened a new coaster with surfboard-style ride vehicles that put riders in a standing position at up to 110 feet in the air. The ‘seats’ rise and fall to give the sensation of riding on a wave.

Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, Pipeline: The Surf Coaster offers five airtime moments and speeds of up to 60 mph. It also features an innovative ‘wave curl’ inversion.

“This is the only ride in the world where you can mimic the movement of surfing,” said SeaWorld Orlando’s vice president of park operations, Rob McNicholas.
