Universal has raised ticket prices at its US theme parks, following the lead of Disney which increased its own admittance costs last week.

The average cost increase for a one-park ticket is $5 at both Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood Studios.

The California-based resort has increased gate prices from $120 to $125 for a one-day ticket, however advance sale online tickets can be purchased at a cheaper cost. Two-day tickets have increased by $10 at the park.

Universal Orlando single day, one-park tickets increased from $110 to $115 with multi-day, single park tickets also increasing by $5. Park-to-park ticket increases ranged from nothing to $20. A five-day, park-to-park increased from $294.99 to $314.99.

Universal has not changed the prices of its annual passes for either resort, unlike Disney which increased some of its annual passes by nearly 18%.

The largest increases were for Disneyland in California. The Disneyland Deluxe Annual Pass increased 17.8% from $619 to $729 while the Disneyland Signature Plus Annual Pass rose 17.7% from $1,049 to $1,149.

Annual pass increases at Walt Disney World Resort ranged from 4% to 9%, depending on the product.

Disney adjusts one-day ticket prices based on expected crowd levels for that day. Later this year it will also begin adjusting prices for multi-day tickets based on expected crowd levels at Walt Disney World Resort.

The highest increase in one-day tickets was also at Disneyland with peak-period one-day tickets now costing $135 compared to their previous price of $124. A regular one-day ticket will go from $110 to $117. Value tickets remain the same at $97. Multi-day tickets at Disneyland are rising between 3.7% and 6.6%.

Walt Disney World Resort one-day ticket prices are going up between 2% to 4% and multi-day tickets increased between 1% and 8.6%. A single day entry to Magic Kingdom has increased from $124 to $129 at peak times. A peak ticket at the other Disney World parks increased $3 to $122.
