THG Creative, an agency specialising in developing attractions for theme parks, museums and brands, has announced leadership transitions that reflect the company’s ongoing evolution and long-term growth strategy.
Erik Neergaard has been named chief executive officer, and Phil Hettema, a Buzz Price Award winner, is taking on the title of founder.
The changes, resulting from the 2022 merger of The Hettema Group and Themespace, highlight the company’s continued international expansion and the vital roles both leaders will continue to play in forging THG Creative’s future.
'Natural evolution'
Formerly chief creative officer, Neergaard will now lead the overall business strategy, operations, and client collaborations as CEO and owner.
Neergaard's experience includes numerous senior creative and advisory roles on projects for major global brands and institutions, such as Universal, DreamWorks, Paramount, Sony, Nickelodeon, and McKinsey & Company, crafting experiences that balance creative vision with operational success.

Hettema previously served as CEO and will continue to be heavily involved with the studio as a creative leader, guiding vision, storytelling, and design excellence across projects.
With over forty years of leadership in themed entertainment, he is a highly respected figure whose influence and legacy are integral to THG Creative’s identity and culture.
"These changes reflect not a departure, but a natural evolution," says Hettema.
"THG Creative is built on collaboration, creativity, and trust, and Erik has long been leading from within. I’m excited to continue focusing on creative leadership while supporting Erik as he steers the business forward."

Neergaard's new title officially acknowledges the responsibilities he has been effectively managing since the 2022 merger that formed THG Creative. Neergaard has been instrumental behind the scenes in leading the company’s expansion, integrating teams, and strengthening its capacity to serve clients globally.
He says: "THG Creative has extraordinary talent and an incredible legacy. Phil remains a creative force and a trusted partner. I’m honored to take on this role as we continue to grow, evolve, and deliver exceptional experiences for our clients around the world."
Located in Pasadena, California, THG Creative is an independent creative agency specialising in immersive storytelling and experience design for theme parks, museums, cultural institutions, destinations, and international brands.
Its clients include The National WWII Museum, The Children’s Museum of Manhattan, Universal Creative, Walt Disney Imagineering, DreamWorks, Sony, and Paramount, among many others.
Recently, THG Creative announced that Scott Sinclair, its executive director of design, has been recognised by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) as a 2025 TEA Master of Their Craft.
