Scarecon – Europe’s Only Scare Attractions Show Returns to NEC

News

ScareCON, the only European conference and exhibition dedicated to the scare attractions industry, returns to the Birmingham NEC next month following its successful debut last year.

Launched alongside Leisure Industry Week (LIW) in 2008, the event brings together operators of leisure facilities, production companies, themeing specialists, make-up suppliers as well as designers of large scale animatronic characters.

“This is the only show of its kind for the scare attractions industry and will be bigger and better this year with a wide variety of exhibitors, interactive demonstrations and a diverse seminar programme. This is a fast-growing industry in the UK with many leisure operators benefiting from the increasing trend of promoting scary, but fun and safe activities throughout the year not just at Halloween, ” says Michael Bolton, Co-Founder of Scare Attractions UK, the company behind the event.

Attractions Expo, which is part of LIW and the UK’s largest show for the attractions and family entertainment sector, has partnered with Scare Attractions UK to help grow the scare attractions sector. As a result, LIW-registered visitors will receive a discount when registering for ScareCON in May.

“This is a fascinating industry with advantages for operators of all sorts of facilities from farms and theme parks to leisure centres and hotels. We are very pleased to be working with ScareCON again, ” says Chris Brown, Show Manager at Attractions Expo.

The Screamies, the UK’s first awards ceremony recognising the best scare attractions in the UK and voted for by the general public, will make their debut at ScareCON this year. The event will also include The Scare Room, where professional actors will demonstrate the effectiveness of this form of entertainment in a controlled environment. Interactive sessions on how to scare will also be available.

“Whether you are in the haunt industry already or are looking for a new and fresh direction to take your business or attraction, ScareCON is for you. We will have interactive demonstrations and seminars from some of the best in the industry – experts who have been scaring people for years. These people know how the industry works and are willing to help you create a truly unique experience for your guests, ” says Michael.
As well as ScareCON, Scare Attractions UK also runs Haunted Attractions, the UK’s leading website dedicated to promoting scary, but safe and fun activities. A smaller ScareCON will also run at Attractions Expo in September providing general information about the industry as well as sample attractions to stimulate discussion among delegates, who will have free access to ScareCON.
