The UK’s first insectarium, the BugWorld Experience, has been awarded the prestigious Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme (VAQAS).
VAQAS is VisitEngland’s quality assessment service for all types of visitor attractions throughout England. All areas that impact on the quality of the visitor experience are included in the assessment, ranging from the initial enquiry through to the departure, which helps to identify strengths of an attraction based on industry examples.
The BugWorld Experience is the newest attraction at the Albert Dock in Liverpool. After being open for only one month, the BugWorld Experience received glowing comments from the assessor who awarded the attraction VAQAS status.
The VAQAS Quality Assessment Report states that: “The BugWorld Experience is a great addition to the Albert Dock facilities and appears to have made an excellent start. It has been fitted out to very high standards with high quality kit and looks excellent.
“The BugWorld Experience provides an excellent standard of visitor experience and comfortably merits the initial VisitEngland accreditation as a ‘Quality Assured Visitor Attraction’.”
As the first insectarium of its kind in the UK, this attraction sees visitors guided through simulated environments from a rainforest to a Savannah to the everyday British home, with opportunities to find out about and interact with the bugs that inhabit each. As well as getting the chance to touch bugs like the giant hissing cockroach, those that like their day out with a sting in the tail can even sample insect food delicacies from around the world.
Jenny Dobson, the BugWorld Experience general manager, said: “Here at the BugWorld Experience we are very proud to be recognised for best practice in the visitor attraction industry.
“Being awarded VAQAS accreditation has confirmed that our visitors are receiving the highest level of customer service and an excellent, quality experience, which has been measured against industry benchmarks.”
