Disney Cruise Line‘s Lighthouse Point, a new destination on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas, is opening in summer 2024.
The colourful island retreat will celebrate Bahamian culture and was created in collaboration with local artists and advisors.
Much like Disney’s Castaway Cay, the private island will offer pristine beaches and Disney-themed activities and areas for every age group.
Lighthouse Point includes a large family beach on the east side of the island, as well as an adults-only beach with a dedicated dining area, and another peaceful beach with family cabanas.
Highlights also include a Bahamian art and culture pavilion with special programmes and local artists, and a covered gaming pavilion.
Lighthouse Point features a family-friendly water play area with slides, water drums and fountains, and a themed kids’ club with a splash pad inspired by The Little Mermaid.
Additional recreational facilities and activities include a volleyball court and gaga ball pit, bicycle and watercraft rentals, nature trails for hiking and biking, and explorations with tour operators beyond Lighthouse Point.
The sustainable destination has a solar array to meet 90 percent of its electricity needs, and its pier was designed to avoid the need for dredging. Elevated walkways will limit the impact of visitors on the landscape.
Disney activities and Bahamian culture
“At Imagineering, we do view every project as an opportunity for storytelling,” Caitlin Krasovic, a senior architect for Walt Disney Imagineering, told blooloop.
“Lighthouse Point will be a shining example of blending those powerful stories of the Bahamian culture and art together with our shared goals for environmental responsibility.”
Disney Cruise Line’s fifth ship, the Disney Wish, set sail on its maiden voyage in July 2022. The ship is home to immersive and magical experiences.
These include the first Disney attraction at sea, Marvel and Frozen-themed dining experiences, original Broadway-style stage productions, and cool clubs for children.
