Pico Play Splashmania Water Park Construction

The waterpark is now open to guests following project completion

Pico Play, a global leader in the planning, design, development and construction of world-class themed attractions and entertainment, has completed work on a record-breaking waterpark in Malaysia.

SplashMania, with the tagline “Where Nature Meets Fun”, is Asia’s largest rainforest water theme park, covering 18 acres (7.28 hectares) with 24 water slides and 15 amusement park-style attractions.

Amongst the park’s highlights are Atlantis VR, the country’s first VR water slide, and Shaka Waka, a customisable and immersive LED light effect water slide. There are also 17 retail and F&B outlets spread throughout the site at Gamuda Cove, which is promoted as Malaysia’s first low-carbon city.

Pico Play was responsible for the full theming and build of the entire park including a 60-metre-long and 50-metre-tall landmark pirate ship.

The project took approximately 18 months and officially opened this week on 6 February 2023. The buildup and completion involved 145 staff and sub-contractors and were completed both on time and within budget.

International expertise

Pico Play creates high-level themed attractions and entertainment that provide millions of people with amazing experiences through planning, design, development, and construction. Its global network has been managing projects and creating structures for more than 50 years.

“With the capabilities of our team within our fabrication facilities, we are able to prefabricate almost all elements for any project. This enables very accurate design replication, rapid installation on site, therefore the reduction of labour cost ensuring budgets and timeframes are met,” says Pico Play senior project manager Josh Madrers.

“At Gamuda Cove – Splash Mania we were able to accomplish this in all respects. From the design team to the accuracy of fabrication, to our site installation team, our processes shone through delivering an almost exact copy of the architect’s concept rendering.”

Pico Play recently outlined the advantages and successes derived from the company’s three-month paid work placements, with interns including university students from Malaysia.
