Therme Manchester is holding a groundbreaking event today (12 September) to mark the official start of construction on the new UK wellness resort.

Therme Manchester will feature state-of-the-art swimming and thermal bathing areas, spa and fitness zones, immersive art, sustainable gardens, and a range of restaurants and cafes.

Located in the TraffordCity retail and leisure destination, Therme Manchester will also create around 2,500 construction jobs, and will employ 650 staff to operate the resort.

“Therme Manchester will be a place for everyone – a unique destination where wellbeing, sustainability, art and culture come together,” said David Russell, Therme UK’s CEO.

“Our vision is to make a lasting positive impact: creating jobs, supporting communities, and helping people live healthier, happier lives for years to come.”

UK’s first urban wellness resort

News of a groundbreaking ceremony at Therme Manchester comes after Sir Robert McAlpine was appointed as construction manager for the development.

Neil Martin, chief executive at Sir Robert McAlpine, said Therme Manchester is a “world-class destination that will transform wellbeing and benefit TraffordCity and the wider region for generations to come”.

James Whittaker, managing director of Peel Waters, the property developer behind Therme Manchester, said: “We’re thrilled to have reached this pivotal moment as work begins on site at Therme Manchester.”

“We’re very proud to be part of a project that will completely redefine leisure and wellbeing in the UK and Europe.”
