Applications open until 30 April

Applicant institutions can specify their preferred year or confirm their availability for both options.

Hosting a WAZA Annual Conference provides organisations with an excellent opportunity to welcome the global zoo and aquarium community to their institution and city. It allows hosts to showcase regional leadership, innovation, and expertise while also contributing to strategic conversations that extend beyond the event itself.

Interested institutions are required to submit all of the following:

  • The official application form
  • A letter of interest from your institution, outlining the motivation to host the conference and signed by the Director or CEO of the WAZA member institution
  • A letter of interest from your city outlining the motivation to host the conference
  • A brief PowerPoint presentation or video (up to 2 minutes) supporting the bid

The Conference Guide functions as the key reference document, detailing the requirements and expectations for hosting a WAZA Annual Conference.

The call for bids is open until 30 April 2026. The WAZA Executive Office will conduct an initial review in May 2026, followed by the WAZA Council's evaluation of the shortlisted bids in May. The hosts for the 2027 and 2028 conferences will be announced in May or June 2026.

Shortlisted bidders may be invited to deliver a virtual bid presentation to the WAZA Council in May 2026.

Members are urged to apply early so the WAZA Executive Office has enough time to review submissions and confirm their validity.

Recently, WAZA joined forces with the International Zoo Educators (IZE) to present a new publication titled Leading Social Change for Biodiversity Conservation. This edition presents real-world cases from zoos and aquariums worldwide, showing how this community promotes social and behavioural change benefiting people, wildlife, and the environment.
