On 12 March at 4 pm GMT, blooloop will host the first in a series of sustainability webinars, followed by a live Q&A and breakout discussion rooms.

The session, titled An unexpected collaborative conservation partnership, will offer an exclusive insight into one of the world’s most unique conservation collaborations.

Situated on 500 acres of waterfront property at Tampa Electric’s Big Bend Power Station, the Florida Conservation and Technology Center (FCTC) exemplifies how industry and attractions can co-create a sustainable future.

Meet the experts

We will be joined by Stanley Kroh of Tampa Electric and Dr Debborah Luke from The Florida Aquarium to discuss how a major utility company and a world-leading aquarium collaborated with state agencies to establish a hub for manatee protection, sea turtle rehabilitation, and globally recognised coral restoration.

Luke is the senior vice president of conservation at The Florida Aquarium, with over 30 years of leadership in marine and environmental conservation. She employs a science-based approach to embed conservation across the Tampa and Apollo Beach campuses, including messaging, science, action, and sustainable practices.

She also oversees the Aquarium’s conservation efforts locally, regionally, and internationally, focusing on initiatives that enhance staff expertise, leverage partnerships, and strengthen its role as one of the world's leading conservation aquariums.

Luke oversees the Aquarium’s conservation programmes, focusing on wildlife protection, habitat health, reducing plastics and pollution, and promoting sustainability. She was senior vice president of conservation and science at AZA for nearly 10 years, launching key programmes such as SAFE.

Her aquarium experience includes roles at Sea Life Park in Hawaii and Mote Marine Laboratory, where she specialised in manatee care and research.

Kroh serves as the senior manager for land and stewardship programmes in Tampa Electric's Environmental Services Department, a role he has held for 25 years.

His responsibilities include overseeing the company's award-winning Manatee Viewing Center and the Florida Conservation and Technology Center in Apollo Beach.

Additionally, Kroh chairs the Water Subcommittee of the Florida Electric Power Coordinating Group. His professional credentials include being a Registered Environmental Manager (REM), Certified Waste Management Professional (CWMP), and Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer (CESCO).

The future of greenloop

Participants will learn how the FCTC balances a popular visitor destination with innovative research and clean-energy education. Whether viewers are aiming to develop corporate collaborations or enhance their attraction's conservation efforts, this session provides practical insights into the power of partnerships.

This event is the first of blooloop's new approach to greenloop, our conference dedicated to sustainability in the visitor attractions industry.

Since launching in 2021, the virtual conference has been attended by professionals from theme parks, museums, zoos, and more, and has featured best-practice examples and expert speakers from industry leaders, including the Walt Disney Company, Merlin Entertainments, the United Nations, and leading climate scientists.

Following five successful events, the greenloop format is changing to keep the sustainability conversation going throughout the year.

We will be presenting monthly webinars, with space for insights from those on the cutting edge of sustainability in our industry. There will also be more opportunities for discussion groups, Q&As, and an online community.
