New England Aquarium CEO, Nigella Hillgarth, has announced that she will be leaving her post to go back to research.
Hillgarth has been at the Aquarium for less than three years. Under her leadership the Aquarium has promotedamaster plan for development, including a new building and Imax theatre, as well as expanding its science and research agenda.
Hillgarth takes up a teaching post at the University of Washington in Seattle in spring.
The Boston Globe reports that Hillgarth said, “I’ve been feeling more and more drawn to actually doing research again. That’s the heart of where I come from. And quite frankly I’m not getting any younger. I want to do it while I still have the strength and agility to get out there."
