The PDZA has issued an RFQ for architects and engineering teams specialising in zoo exhibit design.
Zoo designers have until 1:00 pm on Friday 28th July, 2017 to submit their applications.
The project – an upgrade to the Arctic Tundra exhibit – includes a predesign study, preparation of complete designs, construction documents, permitting, and assistance with bidding and construction administration.
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is a 107-year-old organisation situated in 27 acres in Point
Defiance Park in Tacoma, Washington.
The current Arctic Tundra exhibit occupies approximately 4.5 acres in the northern part of the Zoo. The focus of this project will be on the 2.5 acres Polar Bear/ Arctic Fox area. Over the past thirty years, the Arctic Tundra exhibit has been one of the star exhibits at PDZA.
The project will include upgrades to the existing Arctic Tundra exhibit bringing it into compliance with the ACM for exhibiting polar bears; facilities for holding two adult bears with dens and other features sufficient to allow breeding and birthing of cubs.
PDZA is looking for a qualified team of professionals experienced in the design of live animal exhibits to provide a predesign study. The initial assignment will be to conduct a predesign study to establish a detailed project scope and budget. Following satisfactory completion of the predesign study, PDZA may request additional design development and construction services.
