Yokohama Hakkeijima Inc., a member of Japan’s Seibu Group, is to operate a new aquarium to be built in northern Taiwan.
Construction work will begin in 2017. Thenew aquarium expected to open in 2020 and is forecast to attract 1.6 million visitors in its first year of operation.The project is part of the widerTaoyuan Aerotropolisurban development around Taoyuan Airport that willinclude hotels, retail outlets and a cinema.
The development is a joint venture betweenYokohama Hakkeijima Inc. andCathay Financial Holdings.
Yokohama Hakkeijima Inc. currently operates six aquariums in Japan, including Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise and Aqua Park Shinagawa.
This will be the first aquarium operated by a Japanese company overseas.
