Aviktas, the UK’s tallest swinging pendulum ride, has taken a spin for the very first time at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Announced last year, the spinning pendulum ride by Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides, will swing 120 degrees and reach 138 feet at full height.

On Tuesday evening, the new £8.72 million attraction marked a major milestone after its huge pendulum took a spin for the first time.

The landmark occasion was met with cheers as the 138ft ride completed its maiden spin, keeping the project on course for its highly-anticipated spring 2026 opening.

Following the initial rotation and testing by engineers, the pendulum’s first full swing is expected in the coming weeks.

Amanda Thompson, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort, said: "Seeing Aviktas move for the first time was a truly special moment for everyone involved in this project. Each milestone brings us closer to that first ride, and we can’t wait to share this experience with our guests in the spring."

Taking place over the past few months, construction on Aviktas has seen four 16-tonne legs being erected, the golden swinging arm installed, and ride systems carefully fitted.

The new ride will accommodate up to 40 riders, with outward-facing seats designed to give them the sensation of flying.

Maiden spin met with cheers

Standing at 138 feet, Aviktas is the UK’s tallest Gyro Swing – nearly twice the height of the 74-foot Maelstrom at Drayton Manor.

Previously speaking about the project, Thompson said: "We’re known for going big at Pleasure Beach, and Aviktas is exactly that.

"We hope by releasing this video, guests will be able to understand the mammoth scale of our new investment, and the huge impact it’ll have on our park and the industry as a whole.

"This ride will be colossal, daunting, exhilarating and an incredible addition to the town."

Aviktas will open in Spring 2026, with an official opening date to be revealed in the coming months.
