Christie, the global visual and audio technology company, has supplied a fleet of laser projectors to a new immersive water show marking the 900th anniversary of the birth of acclaimed Southern Song Dynasty poet Lu You.
Coinciding with the first day of the Lunar New Year, The Wonders of Lu You opened on 17 February at the Lu You Hometown Scenic Area in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province.
Here, a thoughtfully designed guided route leads guests on a coherent cultural journey from the Lu You Museum, through the water stage, and finally to Lu You’s former residence.
As night falls, the historic site transforms into a dreamlike display of light, water, and live storytelling performances that vividly showcase Lu You’s patriotic spirit and literary talent.

Customised projection solution
End‑to‑end project support was delivered by Shanghai Qingying Digital Technology, Christie’s authorised distributor.
This ranged from early spatial surveys and equipment selection to multi‑projector installations spanning performance venues and building façades, and ensured a continuous visual narrative for audiences as they move through the site.
Yueyi Wu, general manager, Shanghai Qingying Digital Technology, says: "Christie’s extensive product portfolio, spanning RGB pure laser and laser phosphor illumination technologies, has met the creative team’s requirements for realizing this large-scale spectacle.
"Together, these visual solutions deliver a seamless, emotionally engaging experience that resonates with visitors of all ages."
To realise this ambitious vision, Qingying Digital Technology supplied a bespoke projection solution with a range of illumination options tailored to the site’s complex outdoor setting.
At the main water stage, Christie Griffyn 4K50-RGB pure laser projectors delivering 50,000 lumens each were installed to recreate battle scenes and capture the refined details of Song Dynasty architecture with outstanding clarity and colour accuracy.
Additionally, over a dozen DWU23‑HS and DWU15‑HS laser projectors were arranged across distributed performance areas to complement the main stage.

Compact yet powerful, the HS Series powered versatile, affordable installations for corridor‑based interactive projections and to recreate scenes from Lu You’s former residence, cocooning guests in a visually rich and historically engaging atmosphere.
By deploying the advanced Christie Conductor monitoring and control software for the Griffyn 4K50‑RGB and M 4K+25 RGB projectors, Qingying Digital Technology further elevated the setup's reliability, ensuring stable, round-the-clock operation that supports high visitor traffic and the scenic area's operational demands.
Gene Wang, senior director of ProAV Sales for China, Christie, says: "The Wonders of Lu You demonstrates how projection technology can elevate cultural storytelling to an entirely new level.
"From high‑brightness RGB pure laser projection on expansive water stages to flexible installations in intimate interactive spaces using the HS Series, this project showcases the versatility and reliability of Christie solutions in demanding outdoor environments."
The project exemplifies how projection technology can enhance cultural tourism experiences by crafting immersive, emotionally resonant journeys that connect contemporary audiences to heritage.
Last month, Christie shared how its projection technology has been deployed at Atlas9, a new premium immersive art experience in Kansas City, US.
