Disguise, a global leader in media server technology and extended reality (XR) solutions, is celebrating the opening of the Fantasy Box, a new multi-purpose cultural venue at MGM Macau, a five-star hotel in China.

This 1,400-square-metre venue has been created to highlight both international and Chinese culture while championing the local Macau arts community.

As part of this development, MGM collaborated with Disguise to design and deliver a collection of 10 customisable content styles for Fantasy Box’s 7-metre high curved LED wall.

With this project, MGM extends its long-standing collaboration with Disguise, which provides the technology currently used at Cotai Spectacle and Cotai Theatre in Macau.

Easy-to-use, adaptable LED environment

Disguise developed a variety of Unreal Engine and Notch styles as part of a versatile creative toolkit.

Each scene can be customised by MGM’s internal team, who can adjust elements such as colour, speed, and branding to keep the content fresh and distinctive for every occasion.

Brian Allen, VP of creative services at Disguise, says: "Being brought in at the design and concept phase meant we could shape the creative visions as well as the technical framework.

"Instead of producing one-off scenes, we built toolkits that MGM’s team can adapt and reuse over time. That reflects how we approach content creation at Disguise: finding long-term, flexible solutions that push the boundaries of what’s possible, while giving clients the freedom to continuously reinvent their experiences."

The venue's technical specifications include seven GX 3 media servers and ten RX III nodes, with Smart Monkeys integrating intuitive show control for real-time adjustments.

This allows MGM staff to easily manage content and adapt the LED environment to suit different events.

Darren Kopas, executive director of resort technology at MGM Macau, says: "The synergy between Disguise’s creative and technical teams gave us tools that empower our team to experiment and iterate in real-time, unlocking new possibilities for interactive and generative video elements that can evolve with the experience itself."

Since launching, Fantasy Box has already hosted significant events, such as the immersive art experience Brilliant Stars – The Civilisation of Ancient Shy, and cAITM Lab 2.0 – Is It Your Gazethat Meets Mine, or Mine that Seeks Yours? as part of the 4th Art Macao festival.

Recently, Disguise worked with the creators of F1 Arcade, the world’s first official experiential hospitality brand focused on Formula 1, to introduce F1 Box, a new racing simulator at Westfield Stratford City shopping centre.
