US-based Great Wolf Resorts, the owner and operator of North America's largest family of indoor water park resorts, has submitted plans for a new site in Basingstoke, England.

The company is planning to build an indoor water park and 512-room hotel with restaurants and retail space at the current site of Basingstoke Golf Centre on Worting Road in Hampshire.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council previously backed the plans in principle and will now consider the application from Great Wolf Resorts.

The company expressed an interest in the 27-acre council-owned site after a campaign to encourage leisure attraction developers to invest in neighbouring Basingstoke Leisure Park.

In addition to an indoor water park and hotel, the proposed resort would also feature conference facilities and leisure offerings including mini-golf, mini-bowling, a ropes course, and games arcade.

Great Wolf plans three UK sites

Also planned for the Basingstoke attraction are Great Wolf Resorts' signature interactive adventure game, MagiQuest, as well as the 'Legend of Luna' lobby show featuring projection technology and special effects.

Via the project page, the indoor water park will provide a host of family-friendly pools, slides, rides and splash pads.

The resort is expected to attract an estimated 600,000 extra visitors a year to the region, also providing more than 600 new jobs and bringing substantial economic benefits to the town and wider borough.

Great Wolf operates 23 indoor water park resorts across North America, in the US and Canada, and it has plans to create three sites in the UK in Oxfordshire, Derbyshire and Hampshire.
