Linda Spurdle
Linda Spurdle is an expert in the cultural sector, with over 20 years of experience working as a digital leader within museums. She is a freelance consultant working with the heritage and culture sector, universities, and the creative industries on a variety of projects. In 2025 she co-founded Museums Camp, the unconference for museums, and became a TEDx speaker.
Prior to her consultancy practice, she worked for several large and complex, multi-site museum services, and was the Head of the Digital at Birmingham Museums Trust (BMT) from 2013 to 2024. Her work spearheaded digital transformation and digital engagement. She led BMT’s innovative open access policy, releasing thousands of out of copyright images into the public domain, and developed partnership projects to enhance this work. This includes the success of a partnership with Unsplash and creative projects such as working with artist Cold War Steve and Vivid Projects on the Cut Copy Remix project and taking the museum’s images and the poetry and music of local performing artists into the metaverse with Occupy White Walls. Linda developed the use of storytelling to connect digital audiences with Birmingham’s collections and history, and she feels privileged to have commissioned Pogus Caesar’s The Tiny Spark film, a moving and inspiring reimagining of the Handsworth Riots which included the poetry of Benjamin Zephaniah.
Spurdle is a well-known leader in the heritage sector, often speaking and leading sessions at events. She was named as one of the 2021 blooloop Top 50 Museum Influencers and has given presentations at conferences and events, such as MuseumNext, American Alliance of Museums, Museum and Heritage Show and the Museums Association. She has been an Industries Champion for the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre since 2024.
