Miami Children’s Museum looks to expand to create early childhood centre

Miami Children’s Museum has put forward plans for an ambitious expansion to the Miami City Commission.

Founded in 1983, Miami Children’s Museum is now one of the largest children’s museums in the US with visitor number of over 430,000 pa.  The Museum has moved locations and expanded over the years and now occupies a central location on Watson Island.

The Museum is looking to expand its current facility by 47 percent onto land owned by the City.

26,599 square feet of land is sought on the southwest side of the Museum.  The additional space would be used to create a new entrance and an accommodate additional space for an early childhood experiential centre.  The centre would have facilities and services for children with disabilities and their families, and include programs for children with autism.
