PIXERA two QUAD media servers power projectors which immerse guests in prehistoric environments

AV Stumpfl, Austrian award-winning creator of mobile and installation projection screens, multi-display and show control systems, has helped a major science museum to stage its latest pre-history exhibition which features unique specimens such as a fully intact Spinosaurus skeleton.

As part of celebrations for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the city’s science museum is staging a large-scale exhibition entitled The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Big Eight – Dinosaur Revelation.

Scientific projections

Eight iconic prehistoric creatures including original fossil material and skeletons are brought to life through a range of multimedia projection techniques. The illuminated exhibits, combined with special lighting effects made possible by the assistance of AV Stumpfl, blend scientific research with distinctive scenography.

Cosmovision, a local system integrator, was chosen to set up the required landscape and portrait short-throw projectors, displayed onto a wave-shaped canvas frame.

The firm’s technical sales engineer, Jason Yeung, says that the irregularities of the set-up made the project more complex than usual:

“The 10m x 7m wave-shaped canvas required a complex placement of equipment; we had to take into account overlapping areas to blend edges and eliminate any projection shadows. It was difficult, but using PIXERA’s integrated Vioso camera calibration software, the calculations could easily be done automatically.”

“Extremely satisfied”

AV Stumpfl’s PIXERA two QUAD media servers have been deployed alongside multiple short-throw projectors with rotating lenses, meeting the demanding requirements of the installation.

The PIXERA media server system is a reliable component for workflows that feature ultra-high definition or Unreal engine content and is available to operators in both hardware and software forms.

Yeung adds: “The client was extremely satisfied with the outcome of this install. It is such a pleasure to be part of this fascinating application, bringing quality AV equipment into museum environments takes the visitor experience to a new and exciting level.

“We cannot wait to see what the future will bring as immersive experiences gain popularity, with AV equipment being pivotal to taking visitors into a whole new world.”

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Big Eight – Dinosaur Revelation runs from 8 July to 16 November 2022 at the Hong Kong Science Museum. Exhibition admission is free to the public.

AV Stumpfl recently assisted premium automotive brand Niesmann+Bischoff with the launch of its latest model at a high-profile event in Austria.
