Full planning permission has been granted for the £12m Quiet Man distillery and visitor centre reports the Derry Journal.

The distillery is being viewed as significant to the future development of the city and region.

Councillors have described the project as ‘an excellent addition’ to Ebrington and Derry’s existing tourist attractions.

The brewery will occupy former barracks buildings, ensuring the survival and maintenance of the listed structures. Three contemporary two-storey extensions will link the existing buildings.

Guests will be given guided tours of the facility. There will also be a tasting area with a corporate boardroom, shop, café and a bar leading to a new whiskey garden.
