Motown Museum concept

The Detroit Institute of Arts and the Motown Museum have received huge donations reports Detroit Free Press.

The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) received a $5 million donation to the operating endowment from board member Bonnie Ann Larson.

The DIA will establish a Bonnie Ann Larson Modern European Masters Series to support the Museum’s collection.

The Motown Museum received a $1 million donation from the Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation.

The money will go into the Motown Museum’s expansion fund for the $50 million transformation of the West Grand Boulevard site.  To date more than $10 million has been raised towards the project.

Work on the expansion is expected to start towards the end of this year and complete in 2019.

The Erb donation will go towards the education and community engagement space.

The Motown Museum’s expansion plans include new exhibit space, a theatre, studios and meeting areas.
