La Nube, which means ‘the cloud’ in Spanish, will be the first purpose-built children’s museum in El Paso, Texas.

The El Paso Children’s Museum and Science Center, due to open in Texas next year, has announced its permanent name – La Nube: The Shape of Imagination.

La Nube, which means ‘the cloud’ in Spanish, will be the first purpose-built children’s museum in El Paso. The name refers to the cloud-shaped building, currently under construction in downtown El Paso.

“We are thrilled to announce the name of the new children’s museum and science center coming to downtown El Paso,” said executive director Barry Van Deman.

“When La Nube opens, families will explore, play, and learn throughout four floors of exhibits,” he added. “Taking its inspiration from the clouds above, La Nube will challenge learners of all ages to reach for the clouds and let their imagination soar.”

La Nube is set to open in early 2023. The attraction will focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). There will be hands-on exhibits and interactive experiences.

La Nube is launching its next phase of fundraising through the ‘Reach for the Clouds’ campaign. “We are truly grateful for the generosity of donors in bringing La Nube to El Paso,” Van Deman said.

“We invite everyone to be a part of this adventure by contributing today to our ‘Reach for the Clouds’ campaign,” he added.

“A gift of $250 shows your support in helping La Nube welcome everyone across our region, and your gift guarantees that your name will appear at the base of our four-story climber.”

The climber, designed by Gyroscope Inc, will offer exciting challenges, hidden surprises and unique views of the museum. La Nube is a collaboration between the El Paso Community Foundation and the City of El Paso.

Architecture firm Snøhetta revealed its designs for the museum in October 2020.
