Flying Fish, an award-winning producer of touring museum and science centre exhibitions, is celebrating the interactive touring exhibition HOCKEY: Faster Than Ever.
This project was developed in partnership with the Montréal Science Centre with support from the NHL and NHLPA, and follows the For Museums, By Museums ethos championed by Jay Brown, principal & managing director of Flying Fish.
HOCKEY: Faster Than Ever explores the science which underpins the popular sport. It reveals the combination of technology and physics within the game, from the sound of skates scratching across the ice to the lightning-fast velocity of a slapshot. The exhibition juxtaposes the history of hockey with modern innovations in its engaging displays, which feature artefacts, skates, and protective equipment dating back to the 1800s.
Visitor challenges
A key feature of the exhibition is a range of interactives which encourage visitors to test their skills and knowledge. Challenges include “Don’t Blink”, where visitors test their response time and see how many lights they can hit in one minute. In “Need for Speed”, visitors can measure their slapshot speed and find out who in their group is the fastest.
In the “Score Like a Pro” interactive, visitors must take aim at the targets and demonstrate their accuracy with a puck. Visitors can then experience the thrill of lifting the most sought-after trophy in the sporting world with the “Stanley Cup” touchscreen.
HOCKEY: Faster Than Ever is suitable for all the family and all ages of ability, regardless of level of hockey experience.
Other exhibits include a selfie spot on an ice resurfacer, the legendary machine which maintains the rink, and the chance to go behind the scenes with the NHL star players with display lockers, filled with jerseys and cutting-edge equipment.
HOCKEY: Faster Than Ever celebrates how science and technology continue to push the frontiers of the sport’s past, present, and future. This worldwide tour promises to be a must-see exhibition for both hockey and science fans.
Flying Fish announced the launch of its latest travelling exhibition earlier this year. Mission: Astronaut, is an interactive experience that educates about life in space while immersing its audience in astronaut training.
