The firm’s unique perspective promises to enrich North America’s museum world

formula D_, a producer of internationally recognised and renowned visitor experiences, has announced that it has opened an office in Miami, USA, allowing the company to better serve the greater North American region, including Canada and Mexico.

Marco Rosa, co-CEO of formula D_, says: “We acknowledge that North America is home to the world’s most progressive and forward-thinking museum and visitor attractions – and that’s exactly where we think formula D_ belongs: at the forefront of visitor experience design.

“formula D_ is unique. Our team has a very global and diverse creative perspective. The focus on creating experiences that are aligned with the UN’s SDGs will have a positive impact on the planet and humanity and I believe this is in urgent demand.”

Formula D Wayne LaBar

Wayne LaBar, a well-known museum professional with nearly 40 years of experience as a head of department, independent exhibition producer, museum consultant, and museum director, will lead formula D_North America.

Innovators in experience design ad the digital world

LaBar says:

“In North America, formula D_ offers an approach, philosophy, and creative eye that will differ from the firms already working within North America. South Africa, the home base of formula D_, is a country built on a history of diversity and an ongoing effort to enable broader access to opportunities for all. With formula D_ working on a project, you can be assured that these positive social values will impact the project.

“Secondly, as innovators in experience design and the digital world, clients will receive unique and memorable exhibits for their visitors and communities. I believe we have the opportunity to serve the museum community with experiences that offer new perspectives and value-driven design. Additionally, due to our company size and global experience, coupled with the South African economy, formula D_ can offer services at price ranges that will broaden the museums that can partner with us.”

LaBar’s role will be to lead and grow the North American branch of formula D_. He will act as the point person for formula D_ sales in Canada and Mexico, the United States and the Caribbean, and be a core part of project teams for North American projects.

“I have particular expertise in conceptual and exhibition design: museum master planning and project management of complex projects,” he adds. “My experience includes being a museum staff member and a part of museum design and planning firms. Working on both sides of that relationship offers unique expertise to all formula D_ clients.”

Creating a more sustainable and equitable society

Speaking about his decision to join the firm, LaBar talks about his passion for fostering and enabling a better understanding of our universe for all, in order to create a more sustainable and equitable society:

“I believe museums and other informal learning environments play a valuable role in making this happen.

“My decision to join formula D_ is based principally on how my professional values align with formula D_’s values and unique identity. These include a commitment to forward-thinking and innovative design, a commitment to sustainability, equity and diversity, and finally, a global perspective.”

Attendees at the upcoming Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) Conference will be able to meet Rosa and LaBar at booth #520, where they will be showcasing and exhibiting the firm’s work, including a demo of a recent gesture-controlled exhibit on sustainability choices.

The ASTC conference is an annual leading event for scientific professionals and immersive leaders specialising in technology centres, museums and similar organisations throughout North America and the rest of the world.

Earlier this year, formula D_ attended the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) Annual Meeting and MuseumExpo in Denver, Colorado. Afterwards, the team shared some insights with blooloop on the trends covered at the event.
