The Hong Kong Palace Museum, a HK$3.5 billion version of Beijing’s Palace Museum, is opening to the public in the West Kowloon Cultural District on 2 July. Tickets will be available to buy online from 14 June.
“Opening in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, our team is proud to be able to deliver this perfect gift to Hong Kong people,” said Bernard Charnwut Chan, chairman of the museum’s board.
He said the Hong Kong Palace Museum “combines a Hong Kong perspective with a global vision to showcase treasures from the Palace Museum and other world-class cultural organisations”.

The opening exhibitions, which will display 914 pieces from the Palace Museum, have been jointly curated by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Beijing-based institution. The new museum will also display 13 objects loaned from the Louvre.
Betty Fung, CEO of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, said the opening “marks another significant milestone in the development of the West Kowloon Cultural District, solidifying its status as an arts and cultural hub”.
In its opening year, the Hong Kong Palace Museum will offer free admission on Wednesdays, excluding special events and exhibitions.
Tickets will cost between HK$50 ($6) and HK$120 ($15). They must be purchased or booked in advance via the museum’s website or the West Kowloon Cultural District website and app.
