Imagineear scripts content for Puerto Rico attractions

Imagineear El Morro Puerto Rico

Imagineear, a leading creator of interactive museum tours, has announced a new project in Puerto Rico. The company has scripted content for a self-guided visitor tour of two important fortresses.

Imagineear will be providing self-guided tours in English and Spanish of two key fortresses in Puerto Rico – Castillo San Cristóbal and Castillo San Felipe del Morro, known as El Morro. The tours will be loaded onto Imagineear’s MPi™ touch screen devices for visitors to enjoy.

King Charles V of Spain ordered the construction of El Morro over 400 years ago. The fortress was built to defend the city of San Juan and its harbour from seaborne attackers. In addition to this, Castillo San Cristóbal was built to protect the city from attackers coming by land. The whole area is known as The San Juan National Historic Site. It is the largest fortification built in the New World. It spans 27 acres and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

Scripting against the clock

Imagineear team members Emma Thompson, Senior Project Manager, and Marion McAuley, Creative Lead Writer, visited the fortresses as part of the project. They had the challenge of writing and scripting content on the go while touring each site.

The team had a limited time, spending only one day at each castle. This meant they needed to write the content on the spot to create workable scripts. They explored each site, taking on board salient details from the guides and editing the content as they went.

‘It was an exhilarating experience,” says Thompson, who is project managing the tour productions. “Understanding the scope, the layout of the castles, planning the navigation, photographing images for content screens, absorbing the history, highlights and legends while writing against the clock requires a different sort of discipline than more usual scripting requirements.  Working closely with The Friends of San Juan National Historic Site and the US National Parks Service, we managed to do this within the designated window while maintaining our high-quality standard.”

Imagineear has recently created multimedia tours for the Houses of Parliament in London. It has also created a self-guided tour for the largest ever exhibition on Auschwitz, currently on display at New York’s Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust.
