MediaMation, Inc. (MMI), a leader in immersion entertainment technology, is reflecting on a recent successful project at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Working with Delaware North, which operates the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for NASA, MediaMation was asked to provide immersive solutions for Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex. The firm built four MX4D Motion EFX Flying Theatres, each of which has a 180-degree dome projector screen.
Guests at Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex can enjoy four different films that show different aspects of space travel. In the loading area, roll-up doors shield the audience from the dome projections, until it’s time for the big reveal. Integrated MX4D special effects use seat and back pokers, audio transducers, wind, and scent to enhance the 4D experience for each individual rider.
Twenty seats with motion effects are installed in each theatre, giving guests the impression of flight as they soar towards the cosmos while the bottom drops out from under them. Visitors will experience the feeling of gliding deep into the nebulas of some unexplored regions of space as their feet are dangling.
A destination attraction
Dan Jamele, CEO of MediaMation says:
“We’re very excited about these four MX4D flying theaters at the Kennedy Space Center. We’ve been working with all the partners to keep this moving along during the entire pandemic, and we have overcome many challenges. Each of these four individual experiences are world-class attractions that will continue to thrill audiences from all over for years to come and to help educate people about space exploration, NASA, and the direction that the entire Kennedy Space Center is looking towards for the future.
“We can’t express how excited we are to have seen this wonderful attraction come to fruition and what it means for Kennedy Space Center, MediaMation, and our current and future clientele. We want to establish the MX4D Flying Theater as a destination attraction.”

The Gateway Attraction is a new 50,000-square-foot complex containing multiple levels of attractions, artefacts, and immersive educational content.
“Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex is a bold new attraction where guests will personally experience NASA’s next giant leap and beyond highlighting all the excitement within the space industry,” says Therrin Protze, chief operating officer at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
“Guests can peek at the future of space travel with Spaceport KSC, an immersive experience with multiple journeys along which to travel and learn through a thrilling simulated space flight.”
Following the peak of the pandemic, MediaMation has greatly expanded its customer base in Europe, partnering with a number of new clients.
