Nomad Exhibitions, a designer and producer of sustainable temporary, touring, and permanent exhibitions, has announced a unique and creative collaboration with the Duffy Archive. Together, they have produced a ground-breaking international touring exhibition featuring two of the 20th century’s most celebrated artists: Bowie and Duffy.
With immersive sound and projection, alongside a comprehensive selection of original works curated by Chris Duffy, the innovative exhibition design will transport visitors back to the ‘golden years’ of both artists’ extraordinary careers.
David Bowie was a master of character, redefining what it meant to be a rock star on many levels by continually reinventing himself. Music was just one element of his process, he knew that image and identity were important too, and he wanted to always work with the best creative minds around to give life to his ideas. For Bowie, one collaborator stood out above the others, and that was Duffy.
A unique exhibition
This exhibition experience takes visitors on an immersive journey in time from the 1970s to 1980. A decade during which Bowie and Duffy, two extraordinary creative mavericks, produced moments of visual magic, and the defining images of Bowie’s career: Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, the Thin White Duke, Lodger, and Scary Monsters.
Visitors will be transported back to the times and places where the five historic shoots took place, and with innovative digital storytelling, they will be introduced to the people that were there through never-seen-before interviews, archive film and photography. Alongside the dynamic film experience, visitors will be able to see over 160 original items from the Duffy Archive collections including artwork, sketches, notes, drawings, and photographs that were produced under the legendary studio lights.
In the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the legendary album Aladdin Sane, this innovative and captivating exhibition will have its international premiere on 15 March at the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid (COAM), presented by Spanish production company Sold Out. It will run until 25 June 2023 and tickets for the show are now on sale here.
Nomad Exhibitions CEO Tim Pethick will speak on the topic of sustainability at this year’s AAM Annual Meeting, in a panel discussion entitled: ‘Not just a fairytale: achieving carbon neutrality in travelling exhibits’. The AAM Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo 2023 takes place in Denver, Colorado, from 19-22 May 2023.
