The Striking Structure of The Manetti Shrem Museum of Art,

The Manetti Shrem Museum of Art,

The San Fransisco Chronicle looks at the architecture ofThe Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, which opened on Sunday at University of California, Davies.

The museum formspart of the "Gateway District", which also includes the Mondavi Center for the Perfoming Arts and theuniversity’s visitor center.

Whilst both theMondavi Center and thevisitor center are essentially regular box-shaped structures, theart museum is anything but, with a huge, sweeping white metal canopywhich extends way past the sides of the building itself and envelops the entrance to the museum.

It is a striking statement and reminiscent of another visitor attractionon a different continent, that is also (literally) overshadowed by its roof, Ferrari WorldAbu Dhabi in the UAE.
