Taylor Swift has been announced as the performer at the Academy Museum's annual gala on 17 October, marking another crossover between the pop star and the attractions industry.

Now in its sixth year, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures' fundraising gala aims to advance its mission to celebrate and preserve cinema.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the museum's world-class exhibitions, educational opportunities, and public screenings.

"Taylor is an extraordinary talent whose work resonates around the world," said Amy Homma, director and president of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

"We are thrilled to welcome her to this year’s gala and look forward to her performance to close a wonderful evening of honoring three extraordinary filmmakers and supporting the Academy Museum’s mission to celebrate and preserve cinema."

This year's gala honourees are filmmaker and composer John Carpenter, two-time Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo, and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron.

Per a press release, the gala's honourees champion the museum's mission by taking part in public programming around the event.

For example, Carpenter hosted four nights of screenings of his films, including Halloween (1978), in celebration of the Academy Museum's new horror exhibition.

Taylor Swift's LBE impact

Swift has already made her mark on the attractions world, with fans flocking to a German museum last year to view a painting of Ophelia believed to have inspired her music video.

Meanwhile, California's Monterey Bay Aquarium raised more than $2 million for sea otter conservation in just two days through the sale of a vintage sea otter T-shirt worn by the pop star.

Last year, Disney World opened a Taylor Swift exhibit and Spotify held a pop-up experience to celebrate the release of her The Life of a Showgirl album.
