The world’s leading maze design company, Adrian Fisher Design Ltd., has created a record-breaking hedge maze in Ningbo, China.
The Maze of the Butterfly Lovers at Sunhu Tourist Resort opened on Saturday in the presence of staff from the Guinness Book of World Records.
The maze was officially certified as the largest hedge maze in the world by area, covering 33,565 square metres. It is also the hedge maze with the longest length of paths, with a total of 8,375 metres.
The maze design, which traces the shape of two butterflies, was inspired by the famous Chinese story of the Butterfly Lovers. As visitors explore the maze, they encounter aspects of the story. Paths cross above and below each other via a dozen towers, bridges and underpasses. The centrepiece is a tower featuring twin spiral staircases.
“We all love mazes, from our earliest exploration of what is out of sight, to the fun of solving puzzles,” commented Adrian Fisher, Founder of Adrian Fisher Design Ltd. and designer of the maze. “Mazes are one of the finest ways of sharing an adventure together, making choices, and discovering things we never imagined.”
