Singapore’s Changi Airport is opening Jewel. The brand new expansion will turn terminals into an entertainment destination, featuring over 280 shops and restaurants, as well as the world’s biggest indoor waterfall, a forest, slides and mazes.
The project cost S$1.7 billion (£951 million) and is set over ten storeys and a total area of 137,000 sqm.Attractions at Jewel Changi Airport include:
- Forest Valley – Step out of the airport into a green sanctuary of thousands of trees and plants.
- Rain Vortex – A light and sound show that looks like a giant rainbow waterfall, this is the world's tallest indoor waterfall at 40 metres high.
- Canopy Park – Jewel's top floor is a 14,000 sqm recreational wonderland where guests can play or dine under the sparkling glass canopy.
- Canopy Bridge – Suspended 23 metres above ground in the Canopy Park.
- Bouncing Net – This giant trampoline is 250 metres long, and at its highest point is 8 metres above the Canopy Park.
- Walking Net – Suspended across a void, the Walking Net is 25 metres above ground.
- Discovery Slides – An art sculpture doubles up as a four-slides-in-one.
- Foggy Bowls – Grassy areas emit mists so that children feel like they're playing in the clouds.
Jewel is connected to the airport's Terminals 1, 2 and 3, and has its own 130-room hotel, YOTEL AIR.

“It offers a mix of lush greenery, a scenic waterfall, incredible retail offerings and family play attractions that together make for an unrivalled experience.
“We are excited to bring a new dimension to the travel and leisure experience of our visitors.”
Jewel is opening its first phase (shops and restaurants) from April 17. The Canopy Park is planned for a second phase opening in mid-2019.
Elsewhere, Chubu Centrair International Airport in Japan recently opened an “airport theme park”.
Flight of Dreams includes high-tech immersive activities and F&B centred around the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
