Work has begun on the Green Peak Adventure Resort. The $50 million development will be the first adventure resort in Oman.

The family resort in Jabal Al Akhdar will feature five-star hotels and restaurants as well as adventure attractions aimed at children and young adults including ziplines through the spectacular canyons in the region.

Oman Daily Observer reports that the Oman Investment Fund (OIF) is the main investor for the project which aims to attract more tourists to the Sultanate.

Green Peak Project Development Company is a subsidiary of OIF. Oman Shapoorji Company LLC is the main contractor. The client’s representative is Majan Engineering Consultants. Dusit International’s DusitD2 will be the hotel operator.

Green Peak Adventure Resort is expected to open before the end of 2019.

Adventure tourism key trend

Adventure tourism is a key trend.

Merlin Entertainments recently opened the first Bear Grylls Adventure in Birmingham. The attraction features climbing, indoor skydiving, diving and highropes.

Last week a new $200 million development on Ras Al Khaimah’s Al Marjan Island was announced. In 2016, RAK strategically re-positioned itself as a centre for tourism with a focus on the themes of activity and adventure, wellness and history.
