Pokémon escape rooms to open in Japan

Pokemon is embracing the trend for escape rooms with eight themed venues expected to open in Japan.

The escape rooms are part of the promotional activities surrounding Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You.

The Pokémon Company is teaming up with a Japanese escape room firm to launch the rooms.

The game challenge will centre on the trial of Ho-Oh. Fans will need to use their knowledge of the gaming universe in order to escape.

Characters featured in the promotional material include Ash, Professor Oak, Ho-Oh and Pikachu, along with Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.

The launch of the branded escape rooms is expected to coincide with next year’s movie launch.

Pokémon is the latest video game franchise to adopt the growing trend for video game themed escape rooms. Other recent adopters include Zelda and Resident Evil.
