Emaar announces Dubai Mall expansion plan

News
Dubai Mall expansion

Development will significantly enhance the location, which welcomed 105 million visitors in 2023

Emaar Properties has revealed plans to massively expand Dubai Mall with the addition of 240 new upscale retailers and food and beverage establishments. The contractor has already begun mobilising on the project, which represents a 1.5 billion dirham investment.

Mohamed Alabbar, founder and chair of Emaar Properties, says: “The new Dubai Mall expansion is a great addition to one of the most visited sites in the world. We extend our gratitude to our esteemed guests and loyal customers, as well as our partners, retailers, and government authorities for their unwavering support.

“This expansion reflects Dubai’s ambitious vision to remain at the forefront of global innovation and culture, further solidifying our city’s position as a top global destination.”

Dubai Mall breaks attendance records

It has not yet been revealed whether the expansion will include new entertainment and attractions, but Dubai Mall is already home to the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo,  KidZania Dubai, Play DXB, Dubai Ice Rink, Ekart, and the Zabeel Sports District.

With 105 million visitors in 2023—a 19% increase from the previous year—Dubai Mall broke attendance records to become the most visited location on Earth. The trend continues in 2024, as Dubai Mall continues to be a world-famous destination for shopping and entertainment.

The development serves Dubai’s larger plan to further expand its travel and tourism sector. According to official data, the number of international overnight visitors to the city increased to 5.18 million in the first quarter of 2024 from 4.67 million in the same period the previous year.

Earlier this year, ARTE MUSEUM DUBAI opened at Dubai Mall, showing the exhibition ETERNAL NATURE in its 30,000-square-foot gallery space. This show is inspired by the natural world and includes new media works that draw from natural landscapes and the city’s cultural backdrop. This project marks the first location in the Middle East for the internationally renowned digital art venue.
