Just Stop Oil supporter Eddie Whittingham will speak at greenloop, THE sustainability in visitor attractions conference, on 26 April.
In an exclusive interview, Blooloop asked Whittingham what cultural institutions could do to work with Just Stop Oil in order to avoid future actions like the soup thrown at the Van Gogh painting in the National Gallery last October.
Whittingham called on cultural institutions to make public statements supporting Just Stop Oil’s demand for the UK government to ban all new fossil fuel licenses and consents.
He said, “you don’t have to like us, you don’t have to like what we’re doing”, but that museums and art galleries could “acknowledge that the situation that we’re in is absolutely desperate, and call on the government to end all new fossil fuel licences.”
Whittingham has now been arrested seven times, most recently for disrupting the World Snooker Championships on 17 April.
