The striking dome experience was inspired by a recent blockbuster release

Christie, the global visual and audio technology company, has detailed how its 1DLP laser projectors brought a fictional planet to life, entertaining audiences with immersive visuals in a dome set up within Dam Sen Cultural Park, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

This unique multimedia presentation, titled Nebula – The Elemental Lighting Planet, was held under an inflatable dome 15 metres in circumference and 8 metres in height. It made use of several different technologies, such as Christie D20WU-HS laser projectors, interactive lighting, laser effects, and real-world objects, to transport guests to an exhilarating realm that was inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water.

Christie’s partner Alta Media, a specialist in systems integration, digital content, and show entertainment technology, conceived and executed the concept.

“Nebula – The Elemental Lighting Planet tells the story of the four elements – air, earth, water, and fire – which are seamlessly weaved together using various technologies to create a compelling show featuring an idyllic universe, planets, and the trees of soul and life that bind everything together,” said Alta Media co-founder & CEO Tai Hoang.

“Among the highlights of this show were projections accomplished by Christie D20WU-HS projectors installed on opposite sides of the dome. Each projector was equipped with a Navitar fisheye lens and we were able to fill the dome with spectacular images by placing the projectors about 1.8 metres (6 feet) from the ground.”

Bright, high-impact projections

Hoang said that this project’s whole production, from design to installation, was finished in just 10 working days, a feat that few systems integrators in Vietnam could easily duplicate.

“Thanks to our prior experience in large-scale, elaborate shows such as The Masked Singer Vietnam and numerous live performances, we were able to put together this elegant showcase using contents exclusively created in-house. I am pleased that the contents are perfectly matched with the Christie HS Series projectors, which delivered eye-catching visuals that visitors both young and old can fully enjoy and appreciate during the annual Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.”

Christie‘s senior sales manager for Southeast Asia, Enterprise, Jason Yeo adds: “Alta Media has outdone itself with this fascinating AV showcase that combines state-of-the-art technology, immense creativity, and masterful storytelling that captivates visitors throughout its 10-day duration. I’m glad that the Christie D20WU-HS, with its high brightness, BoldColor Technology, compact footprint, quiet operation, and omnidirectional capabilities, has delivered an amazing spectacle that makes visitors believe they have arrived on the fictional planet of Nebula.”

Christie technologies

The Christie HS Series provides a strong, dependable, and affordable option for virtually any high-use application, with brightness levels ranging from 7,000 to 20,600 lumens and resolutions including WUXGA, HD, and 4K UHD. The HS Series pushes the boundaries of what is possible with 1DLP technology by setting milestones in brightness, colour accuracy, power needs, and form factor.

The onboard Christie Twist warping and blending software and optional Christie Mystique automated camera-based alignment tools make setup, alignment, recalibration, and maintenance of multi-projector systems quick and simple. Christie BoldColor Technology ensures that colours appear natural and true to life. The HS Series projectors are ideal for difficult, constrained-space installations because of their small, lightweight form factor.

Christie recently announced its technology will be utilised at Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan.
