Christie, the global visual and audio technology company and official projection and display partner for Expo 2020 Dubai, has detailed how over seventy of the company’s laser projectors are inspiring visitors at the event’s Opportunity Pavilion.
By providing a visual representation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, the popular interactive exhibition unveils the most fundamental global challenges facing the planet today, celebrating what can be achieved when individuals and organisations collaborate together.
Guests to Mission Possible – The Opportunity Pavilion are welcomed by an introductory video, setting the scene for the visitor journey ahead. The pavilion is separated into three routes, each focusing on the essential needs of energy, food and water. Each resource is represented by the stories of a guide who used minimal resources to create life-changing impacts around the world.
The game of life
Christie projections are used to provide interactive games, encouraging participation and engaging visitors in the process of change. Expo visitors are introduced to people from each guide’s communities, showcasing lives that have been positively impacted by the actions.
Each story is brought to life with immersive projection mapping onto model environments, combined with overhead wraparound video content for additional detail and impact.
“Mission Possible relies heavily on AV because of all the videos and interactive games,” comments Opportunity Pavilion director Anoosha AlMarzouqi. “It was very important to us to have good quality content with the highest possible resolution, to ensure we could deliver an amazing experience for all our visitors, and Christie seemed like an obvious choice.
“Any challenges that we had – whether that was ‘which projector fits better?’ or ‘how do we make this content work best?’ – they were there to assist and provide a solution.”
Pledges for a better world
The experience concludes with a large-scale projection mapping display. The final room features The Garden of Pledges, meticulously designed to resemble an upside-down garden. by becoming agents of change in their own communities.
The peaceful space has provided visitors with time to reflect and be inspired to take action, to be responsible for change in their own community. Pledges and other content is mapped by concealed projectors onto the garden ceiling.
AlMarzouqi adds “We took a serious topic, sustainable development goals, and we managed to get the spirit of it out to people in a simple way using technology. It’s simple, it’s fun and it doesn’t talk ‘at’ people, it talks with them and to them. I think that’s one thing that differentiates this experience. We have had people who have been blown away by the experience, which is so rewarding for us to hear.”
Christie’s director of sales for entertainment (EMEA) Joe Graziano, concludes “It is a great pleasure to be a part of Expo 2020 Dubai, and we are delighted to see the success of the Opportunity Pavilion.
“The versatile nature of the projectors used meant that they could be integrated effectively throughout, helping to tell the powerful narratives with an array of varied and engaging spaces.”
Christie has also provided its expertise to Legoland Windsor, home of the UK’s first flying theatre experience, which utilises its projectors as part of the multi-sensory attraction.
