AI, AR and robots: Disney announces 2021 Accelerator participants

The Walt Disney Company has announced the participants for the 2021 Disney Accelerator, including AR and AI companies and robot creators.

The Walt Disney Company has announced the companies that will participate in the 2021 Disney Accelerator, which was designed to accelerate the growth of innovative companies.

The Disney Accelerator is a three-month mentorship programme that provides participants with mentorship and support from Disney’s leadership team, as well as access to co-working space at Disney.

“Since 2014, the Disney Accelerator has helped foster innovation within the Walt Disney Company and has made a significant impact on the future of technology and entertainment,” said David Min, VP of corporate innovation at Disney.

“The eight companies that we have chosen for this year’s program are all incredible leaders in their respective industry verticals, and we look forward to working closely with them over the coming months.”

2021 Disney Accelerator companies

Attentive is a mobile messaging platform that enables retail and e-commerce brands to connect with consumers through personalised communication experiences.

Bambuser is innovating retail and social media via live streamed shopping.

Camp is creating experiential retail stores and online media destinations for the family.

Holler uses artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver original content that makes peer-to-peer messaging more engaging.

Illumix is an augmented reality (AR) company that allows brands to create immersive experiences across entertainment and e-commerce.

Miko creates cute robots that serve as playful learning companies for children.

Mojo Vision is developing Mojo Lens, the world’s first AR smart contact lens with a built-in display that delivers ‘Invisible Computing’.

PlayOn! Sports is a place to watch live and on-demand high school sports that streamed more than 320,000 live events in 2020.

Disney has named Bonnie Rosen as the new general manager for the Disney Accelerator. Rosen participated in the 2015 Disney Accelerator as part of a personalised video engagement platform called FEM inc.

Earlier this year, Walt Disney Imagineering announced a series of educational workshops called Disney Imagination Campus at Disney’s US theme parks, starting in January 2022.
