Disney’s new attraction will pay tribute to the original 1962 Swiss Family Treehouse.

Tarzan’s Treehouse at Disneyland in California is being turned into the Adventureland Treehouse, inspired by 1960 film Swiss Family Robinson.

Returning in 2023, the revamped attraction will pay tribute to the original Swiss Family Treehouse built at the park in 1962. It reopened as Tarzan’s Treehouse in 1999 before closing in September 2021.

The Swiss Family Treehouse can also be found at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, as well as Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland.

According to Disney, the treehouse will feature “wonderous new environments created amongst the branches of a giant tree on the shores of the Jungle River”.

The Adventureland Treehouse, which was rumoured to be an Encanto-themed attraction, will look more like the original from 1962, with a giant waterwheel at the entrance.

Guests will get to explore “fascinating rooms that the family in this new story created for one another”, said Disney. These include the mother’s music den, the son’s nature room, and the teenage daughter’s astronomers loft.

The rooms are “fashioned from found objects, natural resources, and pure ingenuity”.

The new attraction will include an accessible ground floor with an “ingenious kitchen and dining room”, as well as the father’s art studio. This will display sketches and paintings of each of the upper rooms.

Tarzan’s Treehouse transformation

Disneyland will reveal the opening date and more information about the Adventureland Treehouse in the future.

Splash Mountain is also being replaced at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom with a new experience based on The Princess and the Frog.

Opening in 2024, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure picks up where the film ends, with guests joining Tiana, Naveen and Louis on a musical adventure through the bayou.

Elsewhere, Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a look at Hong Kong Disneyland’s new Frozen land, and revealed that Disney World’s Moana attraction will open in late 2023.
