Alton Towers Resort has unveiled first-look images of Gangsta Granny: The Ride, opening as part of ‘The World of David Walliams’ on May 17.

Gangsta Granny riders will join the main characters of David Walliams‘ popular children’s book to steal the Crown Jewels when the attraction launches at Alton Towers.

“I can’t wait for Gangsta Granny: The Ride to finally come to life and open its doors to families,” said Walliams. “The latest images really showcase the amazing production behind the ride and it’s a real delight to see my characters brought to life.”

The dark ride features state-of-the-art special effects and cutting-edge animation inspired by the artwork of Tony Ross.

The images offer a sneak peek at the ride’s 3D projection mapping and animation, as well as the Gangsta Granny-themed rooms at Alton Towers Hotel.

Guests will board a Royal Carriage before taking a tour of London’s Crown Jewels. After joining Ben and Granny, the ride will take passengers through the sewers to the Crown Jewels vault.

Opening on May 17, Gangsta Granny riders will see, feel, hear and smell the world’s greatest heist as they’re chased through the streets of London and meet the Queen.

In addition, Alton Towers is opening a themed land called ‘The World of David Walliams’. As well as Gangsta Granny: The Ride, this will include Raj’s Shop, the Royal Carousel and Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp.

“What I really wanted was the ride to be truthful to the book and the characters,” Walliams said in early March. “I’m thrilled there’s going to be a Gangsta Granny ride at Alton Towers.

“I never thought that would happen. I didn’t sit down writing the book and think one day it would be a ride,” added Walliams. “I can’t reveal it all yet, but all will be revealed very soon.”

Alton Towers operator Merlin is working on a study for a potential Legoland Resort in Belgium, and announced the opening date of SEA LIFE New Jersey.

Merlin has also teamed up with Hasbro to open a Peppa Pig Theme Park at Legoland Florida Resort in 2022, and Legoland Windsor unveiled its multi-million-pound land, Lego Mythica: World of Mythical Creatures.
