Gangsta Granny: The Ride brings to life the popular children’s novel by David Walliams. Alton Towers previously postponed the opening until spring 2021 due to COVID-19.
In the footage, Merlin creative lead John Burton takes viewers on a tour of the ride’s construction work, also revealing what visitors can expect when they join the main characters to steal the Crown Jewels.
The tour unveils the dark ride’s state-of-the-art special effects and cutting-edge animation. It also includes an interview with Walliams, who has provided voiceovers for characters of Gangsta Granny.

“What I really wanted was the ride to be truthful to the book and the characters,” said Walliams. “I’m thrilled there’s going to be a Gangsta Granny ride at Alton Towers.
“I never thought that would happen. I didn’t sit down writing the book and think one day it would be a ride,” added Walliams. “I can’t reveal it all yet, but all will be revealed very soon.”
Gangsta Granny riders will board a Royal Carriage before taking a tour of the Crown Jewels. They soon find themselves in the middle of Ben and Granny’s adventure, descending into the sewers and through the streets of London.
The ride will twist and spin passengers 360 degrees through various scenes. They will see, feel, hear and smell elements of the story. Gangsta Granny features 3D projection-mapping and animation inspired by the artwork of Tony Ross.

The Peppa Pig Theme Park will be the ultimate attraction for children. It will house various rides, interactive attractions, themed playscapes and water play areas.
