Disney California Adventure has opened the new Big Hero 6-themed San Fransokyo Square, home to new dining facilities and experiences.
The new area, formerly known as Pacific Wharf, will immerse visitors in the world of the 2014 Academy Award-winning film. It continues to serve mainly as an F&B location.
“The very first thing I did was concept work for the San Fransokyo Gate Bridge,” said Imagineer Michael Dobrzycki, art director for San Fransokyo Square.
“It’s such an iconic piece of architecture from the movie that it was important to really help establish that you were in an entirely new world.”
Don Hall, the director of Big Hero 6, added: “To see it now realized in physical form, I’m blown away.”
San Fransokyo Square includes the San Fransokyo Maker’s Market, where decommissioned battle bots are displayed on robot storage cases, a vending machine dispensing collectible golden medallions, and Aunt Cass Café, the second bakery café operated by Hiro’s aunt.
Guests will also meet Hiro and Baymax outside the Hamada Bot Shop, see a mural of Aunt Cass’ lucky pet cat Mochi, and get frozen beverages from a giant drinks dispenser at Rita’s Turbine Blenders.
Disneyland’s new developments
In more Disneyland news, the new Tiana’s Palace restaurant opens on 7 September ahead of the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction next year.
The resort is also making some changes to the area around the Haunted Mansion dark ride, adding a new gift shop and expanding the outdoor queue.
Earlier this month, Disneyland debuted the new Finding Nemo and Finding Dory-themed elements at the Pixar Place Hotel, which will replace the resort’s Paradise Pier Hotel.
