Disney and Marvel have revealed the antagonist of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the new roller coaster opening at Epcot on 27 May 2022.
Riders will join Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot as they attempt to stop Eson, a Celestial, from completing his “nefarious plan”, Disney said.
According to Marvel, Eson was once in possession of the Power Stone, one of the six Infinity Stones, as the Guardians discovered in the first movie.
“Eson is huge,” Disney said. “And powerful. And ancient. And seems poised to grab our pretty blue planet in one hand and slum dunk us like a basketball.”
Disney has also shared the ride’s playlist, which includes ‘September’, ‘Disco Inferno’, ‘Conga’, ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’, ‘I Ran’ and ‘One Way or Another’.
Avengers Deployment Vehicle at Disneyland Paris

Cosmic Rewind rotates 360 degrees and features the first reverse launch for a Disney coaster. It is part of the ongoing transformation of Epcot and will be one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world.
Earlier this month, Disney released a trailer for the family-friendly coaster. In the video, a Nova Corps officer exclaims: “This is an SOS from Nova Corps, our outpost on Earth’s Epcot is in danger!”
“It’s save the galaxy time, again,” Rocket says.
Prior to that, Disney unveiled the attraction’s ‘Galaxarium’, a planetarium-style space that showcases “planets, stars and other wonders that connect Earth and Xandar”.
In addition, Disneyland Paris has unveiled the Avengers Deployment Vehicle (ADV), designed by Tony Stark in collaboration with Shuri from Wakanda Design Group for the Avengers Campus.
Avengers Campus will launch in summer 2022 at Walt Disney Studios Park. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opens on 27 May at Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort.
